FAQs

Is a floor mounted mini split the same as a floor ceiling mini split?

Not always, but DELLA's systems in this collection support both installation positions. Floor mounted refers to mounting the unit near the baseboard, while floor ceiling mini split describes a unit flexible enough to be installed either near the floor or near the ceiling, depending on your room layout.

DELLA's floor ceiling mini splits ship as one system and work in either position without additional hardware. If you have limited high-wall space, floor mounting keeps the unit low and out of the way. If you prefer ceiling-level airflow across a larger open area, the same unit mounts near the ceiling instead.

What size floor mounted mini split do I need?

Floor mounted mini split sizing is based on BTU capacity relative to your room's square footage. Most spaces need around 20 BTU per square foot as a starting point:

  • 250 to 350 sq ft: 9,000 BTU
  • 350 to 500 sq ft: 12,000 BTU
  • 500 to 750 sq ft: 15,000 to 18,000 BTU
  • 750 to 1,000 sq ft: 18,000 to 24,000 BTU

Rooms with poor insulation, large windows, high ceilings, or significant sun exposure typically need more capacity than the chart suggests. The DELLA floor mounted systems in this collection are sized for rooms up to 1,000 sq ft and up to 1,500 sq ft.

Should I choose a floor mounted or a wall mounted mini split?

Choose a floor mounted mini split when your room has low wall space, knee walls, large windows near the ceiling, or a sloped roofline that makes high-wall installation impractical. Floor mounted units sit 4 to 6 inches above the floor and push air horizontally, which works well for even heat distribution in winter.

A wall mounted mini split is the better fit when you have open wall space above window height and want airflow directed downward from a higher position. Wall mounted units are more common and available in a wider BTU range.

If you are still deciding, compare wall mounted mini split options alongside this collection to find the right fit for your room.

How much does a floor mounted mini split cost to buy and install?

A single-zone floor mounted mini split system typically costs $1,500 to $2,200 for the unit and $2,500 to $5,000 fully installed including labor. Final price depends on BTU size, installation complexity, and local labor rates.

The unit itself is the part of the cost you can control before calling an installer. For a full breakdown of what affects mini split installation cost, see our mini split installation cost guide.
